Bikes for the Rest of Us — Mary Free Bed’s popular annual adaptive bike event — was held Saturday, April 25, in the parking ramp of the Mary Free Bed professional building in downtown Grand Rapids.

Wheelchair & Adaptive Sports manager Maria Besta said 80 participants were served at the event, including children, teens and adults.

Thanks to the generosity of the Mary Free Bed Guild, many participants were eligible for funding assistance to purchase their adapted bikes and equipment.

This year’s vendors included Airway Oxygen, the Creative Mobility Group, AMBUCS and West Michigan Bike & Fitness (which now also carries TerraTrike cycles). Selections ranged from “recycled” adaptive tricycles, to tandems, to competitive handcycles — and everything in between.

The Wayland Kiwanis donated and fitted bicycle helmets for participants. More than 70 volunteers — including numerous Mary Free Bed staff and alumni — donated their time and talents.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2015 Bikes for the Rest of Us such a success!
