The Mary Free Bed Fund is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the hospital and other community agencies serving the physically disabled. The MFB Fund acts much like a foundation in that it provides monies to the entities it chooses to support based on meeting certain criteria.
Established in 1986, the MFB Fund was initially established by a contribution of approximately $4 million from the Mary Free Bed Guild.The fund receives its income from condominium tenant leases, investment earnings, and an annual distribution from the Sackner Foundation. The Sackner Foundation monies are specially designated for services to children. A board of 14 directors governs the fund.
The Mary Free Bed Fund supports the hospital as well as a variety of community agencies and individuals who work with the physically disabled. Among the community projects supported last year were:
