My name is Katherine Demulling and I have cerebral palsy. The fine arts have always been a part of my life. When I was young I started taking piano lessons. When I was in middle school, I played the trumpet. In high school, I was a member of the choir. I then attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, where I studied classical piano and vocal performance. I also enjoy doing needlework and crochet projects.
I have participated in ArtPrize and in the Legacy Trust Award Collection Art Competition, which is an art competition for artists with disabilities. I began participating in the Mary Free Bed Fine Arts Exhibition in 2009. My disability has always challenged me to work harder and reach higher. I strive to achieve excellence in everything I do.
The art of photography gives me tremendous joy and spiritual fulfillment. In each of my photographs, I like to catch one moment in time and examine the beauty and mystery of nature. It is, after all, a symbol of the endlessness in time.
