I was born in Grand Rapids, the second oldest son in a family of eight. At the age of 3, I contracted polio, which paralyzed my right side. After a hospital stay of six months, I was able to return home. I had a number of operations through the years. The last one was a total hip replacement. Presently, I am able to get around with the aid of a cane.
I’m a self-taught artist who reflects an awareness of nature and the beauty of Michigan’s outdoors in all my drawings. I did not start working on fulfilling my dream of being an artist until after I was 30 years old. My subject matter ranges from Michigan’s old barns, lighthouses and scenic landscape to the lovable birds and animals we see every day. I have a genuine interest and concern for endangered wildlife.
Pen-and-ink drawings are a natural way for me to express my love for animals and the things around me. My artistic talent is a God-given gift. Through my artwork, I express my feelings and love for God’s wonderful creations.
