Wesley DeVries | #MFBArt14
I am Wesley DeVries and I was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy in 1996. I worked in tool and die for many years, but as my muscle atrophy progressed, I could no longer work. So I turned to painting and have been inspired by images from the world around me, including manufacturing, nature and space. I am married and have one son who is 12 years old.
My paintings are frequently abstract and rich in texture and color. I enjoyed painting on a large scale but have turned to smaller canvasses due to the atrophy in my right shoulder and arm. Although I’m right-handed, I frequently paint with my left hand or use my left hand to support my right hand.
