Minority Scholarship Program
History
The Mary Free Bed Guild, established in 1891, is a non-profit organization that owns Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2002, the guild created the Minority Scholarship Program to promote diverse staffing to meet the rehabilitation needs of our patients.
Award
An individual is eligible to apply for a one-year scholarship of up to $17,500 for education-related expenses if he or she meets the established criteria.
Recipient Selection
A scholarship selection committee comprised of members of the Mary Free Bed Guild, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, and community leaders will select scholarship recipients based on the established criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
- Currently enrolled in, or accepted in, an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student in a nursing or therapy program (PT, OT, speech)
- Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale (overall and chosen area of study)
- Demonstrates leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular activities, or volunteer involvement
- Black or African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander
- Citizen of the United States
Revision Policy
The Mary Free Bed Guild reserves the right to revise the conditions and procedures for the Minority Scholarship Program, including termination of the program.
