The Mary Free Bed Guild, established in 1891, is a non-profit organization that owns Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2013, the Mary Free Bed Guild created the Disability Scholarship Program intended for individuals with similar challenges as those treated by Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital on a regular basis.
An individual is eligible to apply for a one-year scholarship for education-related expenses if he or she meets the established criteria. The scholarship amounts will vary depending on individual needs.
The Mary Free Bed Guild and Mary Free Bed Hospital managers comprise the scholarship selection committee and will select scholarship recipients based on the established criteria.
Must possess a diagnosed physical disability related to a brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, limb difference or overcoming any other serious acquired or congenital neurological condition treatable through rehabilitation
Must be able to competitively apply oneself in the desired field of study, potentially with reasonable accommodations
Student currently enrolled in, or accepted into an accredited college or university as at least a half-time status. (Half time as determined by your school.)
Demonstrates a commitment to serving diverse populations
Demonstrates leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other volunteer activities
Must be a permanent resident in one of the following counties: Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun
Cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale (overall and in the chosen area of study)
