A planned program of post-professional clinical and research training for physical therapists.
To prepare superior physical therapists for a career promoting the continued integration of practice, research, and scholarly inquiry.
The curriculum is based, in part, on the most recent Description of Specialty Practice (DSP) in:
Half of the time will be spent in clinical settings functioning as primary physical therapist on multidisciplinary team at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and the other half will be spent completing research under the direction and guidance of Grand Valley State University or Mary Free Bed personnel. Other activities include physician rounds, Grand Rounds, case presentations, and lectures.

The term is for one year, beginning after graduation.
The resident will be offered full-time status as a Mary Free Bed employee, and, on completion of the hiring process, is eligible for Mary Free Bed benefits.
While employment status is with Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, the resident is also eligible for an appointment as research resident at Grand Valley State University.
Salary is paid bi-weekly. Additional funds may be available for educational experiences.
Financial support is available for research expenses and for presentations at state, regional, and national meetings that take place after the completion of the residency. Student loans are deferrable during the residency.
The applicant must be a physical therapist or in their final year of an accredited physical therapy program. Applicants must have obtained State of Michigan licensure prior to beginning the residency.

Psychological, social, and physical stability required for successful completion of the program
Evidence of commitment to a career promoting the continued integration of practice, research, and scholarly inquiry in neurological or pediatric physical therapy
Satisfactory attendance and performance during clinical educational experiences
Strong skills in scientific inquiry and writing and satisfactory progress in the respective physical therapy program's research requirement
A Residency Selection Committee will select recipients based on the established criteria. An interview with the Residency Selection Committee is required.
The resident will receive a certificate of residency completion from Grand Valley State University and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
