GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – August 12, 2013 Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital welcomes its first Chief Operating Officer on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. After a comprehensive national search, Grand Rapids area resident Jim Wilson assumes the position.
During more than three decades of acute care leadership positions, Wilson served in local, regional, and national healthcare systems and hospitals. In west Michigan, he was Vice President for Spectrum Health Clinical Operations (2004-2007) and President of Blodgett Hospital (2007-2011).
Mary Free Bed CEO Kent Riddle says general acute care hospital leaders typically don’t move to acute rehabilitation hospitals. But, that experience is precisely what Mary Free Bed sought. “We want to be the preferred provider of rehabilitation services for acute care hospitals across Michigan,” Riddle explains. “Someone with Jim’s insight will help us better meet the needs of the hospitals that join the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network.”
Wilson is impressed with the current activity at Mary Free Bed as well as the plans for the future. “Many acute care hospitals across the United States are cutting back on staff and programs,” Wilson says. “Mary Free Bed is not only constructing a new building and renovating its campus, but it is also adding staff, creating new programs, and recruiting network members. I’m thrilled to be part of the team that elevates Mary Free Bed from a Michigan jewel to a nationally renowned rehabilitation resource.”
