The Mary Free Bed Guild Announces Additions to the 2013 Fifth Third River Bank Run

The Mary Free Bed Guild proudly announces the addition of the Masters Handcycle and 5K Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions to the 2013 Fifth Third River Bank Run, welcoming more handcycle and wheelchair racers to participate. Prize money will be offered to winners of the Masters Handcycle Division.

The new 5K Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions for the 2013 race offers individuals with a physical disability who want to compete in the River Bank Run an opportunity  to participate in a shorter distance. Participants must use a racing wheelchair or handcycle. Both divisions will be offered as exhibition races for 2013 without prize payouts.

The expansion of offering the 5K Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions is in response to the growing interest of people who want to participate in the Fifth Third River Bank Run, but are unable to complete the 25K distance,” says Kelly Merz, Spinal Cord Injury Program recreational therapist at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and Fifth Third River Bank Run Wheelchair and Handcycle Divisions Coordinator.

The Mary Free Bed Guild has been a proud sponsor of the Fifth Third River Bank Run since 1989, marking 24 years of sponsoring the Wheelchair Division and eight years of sponsoring the Handcycle Division. The Fifth Third River Bank Run is the only 25K race in the country to offer both a Wheelchair and Handcycle Division, providing disabled athletes opportunities to participate in a competitive race on a 25K national championship course alongside able-bodied racers.
