Tennis League "Run/Rolls" Into 8th Season
Grand Rapids, Michigan - January 26, 2013 - The Grand Rapids Winter Run/Roll Tennis League will host the first of four indoor matches this weekend. Run/roll (also called up/down) tennis pairs a wheelchair tennis player with an able-bodied player to create a doubles team. This integration enables siblings, friends, and parents to play tennis together in a competitive and fun social environment.
Competition begins at 10:00 am and runs until noon Saturday, January 26, 2013. The matches will be held at the Orchard Hills Tennis Center located at 115 Crahen Ave. NE, in Grand Rapids.
The Grand Rapids League was the first in the United States to become officially registered through the United States Tennis Association. The Grand Rapids League has been so successful that the season culminates in a one-day tournament in April that attracts athletes from around the Midwest. It is now part of the Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports Program at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
Media crews attending this weekend’s competition play will see first-hand the positive impact the league for athletes and the community. Interviews with players and tournament officials will be made available.
