Wheelchair Basketball Tourney This Weekend

Each year, the Grand Rapids-based Junior Pacers Wheelchair Basketball Team hosts one local wheelchair basketball tournament. The 2013 Keep Up the Pace tourney tales place this weekend at East Rockford Middle School. Teams from Chicago, Detroit, Fort Wayne and Sterling Heights travel to West Michigan compete against the Junior Pacers.

Instead of footwork, wheelchair basketball players develop chair skills, learning to stop on a dime, catch a flying pass with both hands and quickly sail down the court to the basket. The Junior Pacers have prep and varsity teams, both run through the Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports Program.
