Adaptive Swim Lessons
Make a wake with a Mary Free Bed instructor! Splash through the refreshing water while learning new swim skills and safety tips.
Although there are many qualified community swim lessons offered in the Grand Rapids area designed for children with active life-styles, this option may not be possible for your child because of the nature of his or her disability. Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital offers an alternative. The goal of this program is to teach swim skills and increase swimmers’ knowledge of safety around the water.
Swim lessons are offered through Mary Free Bed for youth with developmental disabilities who require one-on-one instruction from a certified water safety instructor with expertise in working with disabilities.
Interested participants can register for the classes below on a first-come, first-serve basis by calling 616.242.0351. A number of questions will be asked to determine whether the child's swim instructor will be through Mary Free Bed or through local community program.
Mary Free Bed's adaptive swim lessons are offered quarterly and posted in the Recreation Connection Newsletter. If you do not get into any of the offered time slots, you will have another chance the following quarter.
