Spine Rehabilitation

The Spinal Rehabilitation Program is a comprehensive conservative physical therapy approach for patients suffering from acute and chronic back and neck pain.

The Spinal Rehabilitation Program uses a McKenzie, and manual-therapy-based physical therapy evaluation and treatment approach. This system allows the practitioner to optimally empower each patient to be active in their treatment, and, more importantly, to reduce the recurrence of neck or back pain.

Spinal Rehabilitation Services

Some statistics show that upwards of 80% of the population will experience a functionally limiting episode of neck or back pain before the age of 50. This is where the McKenzie-credentialed physical therapists of the Mary Free Bed Outpatient Spine Center come in. Our therapists will work diligently, via a thorough history and mechanical spine examination, to facilitate empowerment of each patient to resolve and abolish their symptoms.

Services Include:

  • Mechanical physical therapy spinal evaluation and treatment performed by credentialed McKenzie practitioner
  • Individualized home exercise program designed to: reduce pain, maintain reduction of pain, recover function, and prevent recurrence through empowerment of each patient
  • Ergonomic and postural education to appropriately modify work stations and environments, both at home and at work, to help facilitate optimal healing and prevent recurrence
  • Modification and integration of current fitness programs and athletic activities
  • Golf-specific rehabilitation
  • Pre- and post-operative rehabilitation programs specific to conditions of the spine

Spinal Rehabilitaiton Services Explained

Patient Assessment
Each patient undergoes a thorough history, and mechanical spine evaluation by a licensed physical therapist who has achieved advanced credentialing in mechanical diagnosis, and treatment of spinal disorders through the McKenzie Institute USA.The primary goal of the evaluation is to determine the best course of exercises for each patient to return to function at the earliest possible time.

Team Approach
Our McKenzie-trained physical therapists work under the supervision of the treating physician. Our highly specialized and trained staff, with years of spinal treatment experience in conservative spine care and injury management, will work side by side with the rest of the medical team, which is led by the referring physician, to get each patient back to life as quickly as possible.

Treatment
Treatment by one of our McKenzie-credentialed physical therapists entails reassessment of the mechanical findings for each patient to ensure that the best treatment path is being followed. Manual treatments, including joint and soft tissue mobilization, muscle energy techniques, and therapeutic exercise, are used to help progress each patient to a level where he or she can individually manage their own condition. The goal of each treatment session is for the patient to achieve the ability to control his or her symptoms independently, thereby allowing a return to full function at the earliest opportunity. This is the cornerstone of our philosophy as it allows the patient to prevent further interruption in their daily activities.
