Evaluation
A physical therapist will perform a detailed patient assessment, which may include:
-
Visual vestibular tests
-
Proprioceptive testing
-
Survey of functional daily activities
-
Balance testing on varied surfaces
-
Positional sensitivity testing
-
Measurement of joint range
-
Measurement of strength
-
Tactile testing
-
Coordination testing
Functional assessment
We assess each patient's level of independence and safety in the home, work, and community environments.
Customized exercise programs
We design a customized exercise program to meet each patient’s needs. These programs often include aerobic activities, balance exercises, and visual vestibular exercises, as well as habituation exercises. As the patient improves, the exercise program progressively becomes more challenging.
Patient and family education
We consider family involvement to be a key component of our program. We educate both the patient and the family on any potential safety concerns. We help the patient and family understand his or her diagnoses and symptoms, as well as projected recovery.
