Mary Free Bed’s Inpatient Amputee Program
During your inpatient stay with Mary Free Bed’s Amputee Program, you’ll recuperate from your amputation surgery by:
Learning wound and skin care.
Receiving education about your amputation and how it affects the way your body functions.
Participating in therapies to increase strength and retrain muscles.
Using equipment to enhance independence and make completing tasks easier and more efficient.
Learning to cope with the changes you’ve been through and the challenges that lie ahead.
Connecting with other amputees who can provide you with support and answers to your questions.
Because of the time it takes to heal after surgery, a prosthesis fitting usually occurs after your inpatient stay and in the outpatient setting.
The Inpatient Admission Process
► Inpatient Admission Criteria
Once Mary Free Bed receives your referral, one of our rehabilitation physicians (also known as a physiatrist) will review it to determine medical appropriateness for admission.
