Therapeutic mobility evaluations provide a thorough, team-oriented look at your mobility and postural support needs. Your and your caregiver's perspectives are taken into account for all environments where equipment is used.
A computerized pressure mapping system may be used to help with cushion selection or decisions related to pressure sores. You can trial a variety of manual and powered mobility chairs. Depending on your seating needs, our seating specialists may incorporate commercially available components as well as custom-designed modifications.
Custom equipment fabrication is done in the Rehab Technology Center by experienced technology specialists with direct input from you, your caregiver (if you have one), and your therapists. Equipment training and maintenance take place throughout the construction and delivery phases.
Custom Seating Orthoses
Your doctor may prescribe a custom seating orthoses to help maintain a good position and to keep you securely in your wheelchair. A custom seating orthoses can also make you more comfortable and place you in a more functional position.
Our seating systems are warranted against manufacturing or material defects for six months from the day you receive your new system.
Seating is not an exact science. It may take adjustments to seat you just right. We'll need to work together to ensure that your system gives you the best possible result.
Four to six weeks following your final visit, we'll follow up to see how you're doing. If you have any concerns before that, please call immediately.

A signed prescription from your physician is needed for most appointments. Evaluations are 1.5 to 3 hours; construction visits are 2 to 3 hours.

Mobile seating services are available in West Michigan for those best served in their school or healthcare facility. Both evaluation and construction visits may be scheduled on a mobile basis, as necessary.
Mary Free Bed orthotists respond to calls from hospitals, nursing facilities, and other institutions. We provide on-call, 24-hours emergency services. We also accommodate walk-in patients around our regular appointment schedule. Call 616.242.0300 for emergency services.
