Mary Free Bed’s OrthoSEAT Takes Care of Your Custom Wheelchair Seating After a Stroke
Following a stroke, you may require custom wheelchair seating and assistive devices. OrthoSEAT — short for Orthotic Seating, Equipment, and Assistive Technology — provides high-quality, therapeutically correct seating orthoses along with other custom devices.
Your OrthoSEAT Evaluation
Your therapeutic seating evaluation examines your mobility and postural support needs from your and your caregiver’s perspectives. It also takes into account all the environments where you’ll use your equipment.
Our rehabilitation experts look for ways to optimize your functional capabilities and improve your comfort. To help with cushion selection and to address any pressure sores, a computerized pressure mapping system may be used to help with decisions. You can also try a variety of manual and powered mobility devices.
In most cases, you’ll need a signed prescription from your doctor for an evaluation. Seating evaluations last 1.5 to 3 hours.
Wheelchair seating solutions can incorporate commercially available components or custom-designed modifications. Your doctor may prescribe a custom seating orthosis to help you maintain a good position and to keep you securely in your chair. A custom orthosis can also make you more comfortable and place you in a more functional position.
Using your input, along with that of your caregivers and therapists, Mary Free Bed’s team of technology experts fabricate custom equipment at the Rehab Technology Center. You and your caregivers receive training in equipment use and maintenance.
OrthoSEAT’s seating systems are warrantied against manufacturing and material defects for six months from the date you receive your system.
Seating isn’t an exact science. It may take adjustments to seat you just right. The OrthoSEAT team will work with you to ensure your seating solution gives you the best possible result.
Four to six weeks following your final visit, we’ll follow up to see how you’re doing. If you have any concerns before that, please call OrthoSEAT.
Mobile Seating Services
Mobile seating services are available in the West Michigan area for those best served at school or at a healthcare facility. Both evaluation and construction visits may be scheduled on a mobile basis, as necessary.
