Getting Back to Work After a Stroke

If your stroke left you with impairments that make it difficult to return to work, ask someone on your Mary Free Bed rehabilitation team to help you get in touch with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) for vocational rehabilitation.

Michigan Rehabilitation Services

Mary Free Bed works with MRS, a government agency whose mission it is to help those with disabilities achieve employment and self-sufficiency. An MRS on-site rehabilitation counselor is available at Mary Free Bed two days a week.

Eligibility

You're eligible to receive services at Mary Free Bed from Michigan Rehabilitation Services if:

  • You're a Mary Free Bed  inpatient or outpatient
  • You have a disability that prevents you from returning to previous employment
  • Your disability prevents you from entering the job market

Vocational Rehabilitation Services

  • Skill training
  • Job placement
  • Job coaching
  • Assistive technology
  • Transportation
  • Much more

Referral

You'll need a referral to an MRS counselor, which is generally made by a therapist or the attending physician.

If you're not a Mary Free Bed patient and would like vocational rehabilitation services, please contact Michigan Rehabilitation Services for information.
