Outpatient Brain Injury Therapy Care at Mary Free Bed

 For patients who require outpatient brain injury treatment, Mary Free Bed's Outpatient Therapy Center provides a comprehensive range of therapy services and treatment facilities. Many of the brain injured patients who are treated in our outpatient center are previous Mary Free Bed inpatients who receive ongoing treatment through Mary Free Bed's continuum of care. However many patients referred from external sources are also treated in the outpatient center. All patients are evaluated and treatment plans are devised to meet the individual needs of each patient.  Length of treatment prescribed varies from a few sessions to several months. Mary Free Bed Outpatient Therapy Center Staff
The Outpatient Therapy Center is staffed by more than 60 on-site therapists. Our team of therapy professionals includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, neuropsychologists, recreational therapists, and social workers. Patients also have access to a variety of on-site specialty services including Orthotics, Prosthetics, the Motion Analysis Center, the Biofeedback Laboratory for Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, Driver Rehabilitation, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, the Spasticity Clinic, and the Rehab Technology Center (assistive technology and customized wheelchair seating). Mary Free Bed's therapists are able to provide home, school, or job site evaluations, when needed. Specialty-trained therapists can provide evaluations and treatment for recent innovative technology such as the iBOT, a stair-climbing power wheelchair, and upper extremity and lower extremity Bioness devices for functional electrical stimulation of hand and ankle movement.
Outpatient Therapy Treatment Facilities
The Outpatient Therapy Center offers a variety of therapy areas to meet the needs of patients during their treatment program. The adult outpatient floor features two therapy gyms, multiple individual treatment spaces, a simulated apartment, and street scape designed for daily living and mobility skill training. The Outpatient Therapy Center also offers indoor and outdoor environments for curb, stair, ramp, and uneven surface training. A heated therapeutic pool is available for patients as is state-of-the-art equipment for voice and swallowing evaluations and treatment. Community- based outings can be arranged, when indicated.
Admission Process
A physician’s prescription is required for evaluation and/or treatment. Once a prescription is received and insurance coverage verified, the patient is contacted to schedule the initial therapy evaluations. Patients must be able to tolerate treatment and have transportation to the outpatient facility. Mary Free Bed's outpatient schedulers can provide information on possible community transportation resources. Mary Free Bed's outpatient brain injury program is accredited by the Joint Commission and CARF.
