A Typical Day for Inpatient Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

Your orthopaedic rehabilitation care plan is designed to meet your needs and goals. However, a typical day generally includes:

Morning care routine – Involves awakening, assessment of medical status and distribution of medications by nursing.

Physician rounds – Daily checks by the physician for management of medical needs and monitoring of progress in rehabilitation.

Morning therapies – Therapy will begin in the patient’s room with self care activities such as eating breakfast, light hygiene, AM scheduled shower, dressing and toileting. Morning therapies will continue downstairs in the rehab gym with continued focus on deficits related to the patient’s stroke such as mobility, strengthening, vision, perception and communication.

Lunch and rest break

Afternoon therapies – Therapists will continue work with the patient on his or her specific rehabilitation goals.

Rest break and evening meal

Evening activities – Patients may choose to spend their evenings relaxing, spending time visiting with family and friends or participating in evening activities. Pet visitation is also available.

Evening care routines – Evening hygiene, PM scheduled shower, evening medications and getting ready for bed.

Patient and family education is ongoing throughout all nursing care and therapies. Families are welcome to attend therapies, whenever available.
