Our Services Explained
Our full range of services are directed by the goal of helping individuals with post-concussion syndrome achieve their highest potential of functioning as they return to their daily roles at home, work, school, and sporting activity.
Types of services include:
Evaluation Clinic
An initial assessment is conducted by a dedicated rehabilitation physiatrist and a neuropsychologist, both highly experienced in the evaluation, and treatment of post-concussion syndrome. This evaluation will result in an individualized treatment plan, including referral to appropriate therapeutic services.
Sports Concussion Program
In response to the increased awareness in the number of sports-related concussions in the community, a specialized sports-concussion evaluation is conducted, when appropriate. This evaluation not only helps educate patients, families, coaches, and athletic trainers regarding the medical aspects of concussion, but also includes specific recommendations for an athlete’s safe return to sporting activity.
Therapeutic services
Therapeutic services may include physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Social workers, vocational consultants, and psychologists are available as well. Each professional on the team is knowledgeable and experienced in treating post-concussion syndrome, and the treatment plan is individualized to meet the needs of every patient. The team communicates routinely regarding each patient’s care, and meets with the physiatrist and neuropsychologist weekly for collaboration.
Education
Education plays a key role in treating post-concussion syndrome. Concussion often results in subtle disability, which makes it difficult for individuals to define and understand. Our team focuses on education to help patients acknowledge deficits, identify their specific rehabilitation needs, and become aware of recovery patterns. We also offer education to other involved persons, such as family members, athletic trainers, coaches, teachers, and employers.
