Post-Stroke Water Therapy
Your stroke rehabilitation team may recommend therapy in Mary Free Bed’s therapeutic pool.
Water therapy for post-stroke treatment is ideal for multiple reasons. The pool's warm temperature combined with the buoyancy provided by the water decreases gravitational forces on your body so you can move easier. Water therapy also helps muscles relax so you can experience greater range of motion and increased circulation.
The therapeutic pool at Mary Free Bed is also a safe environment to work on increasing muscle strength and flexibility and for performing tasks that may not yet be possible to do on land.
If you enjoyed swimming before your stroke, you can continue to do so with a little help. Mary Free Bed's recreational therapists provide swim evaluations and teach water safety and adaptive swimming techniques.
