Mary Free Bed works with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), a government agency whose mission it is to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve employment and self-sufficiency. An MRS on-site rehabilitation counselor is available at Mary Free Bed two days a week.

An SCI patient is eligible to receive services from MRS's on-site rehabilitation counselor at Mary Free Bed if:

  • They are a Mary Free Bed SCI inpatient or outpatient
  • Have a disability that prevents him or her from returning to previous employment
  • If the disability prevents him or her from entering the job market

MRS's services for eligible patients include: skill training, job placement, job coaching, assistive technology, transportation, and much more. A referral can be made to the MRS counselor by anyone; however, most referrals are made by a member of the  therapy team or the attending physician.

For SCI patients who are not patients of Mary Free Bed, please contact Michigan Rehabilitation Services for a listing of offices throughout the State at 1.800.605.6722 or 1.888.605.6722 (TTY).
