Mary Free Bed’s Amputee Mentor Program
Sometimes you just need to talk with someone who’s been there. Ask any member of your rehab team to be connected with a former amputee patient who is trained to mentor and share experiences.
We’ll select one of our specially trained mentors and their significant other to visit you and your partner during your inpatient stay and after your discharge. By talking with someone who’s experienced what you’re going through, you’ll get the peace of mind and first-hand information you need to work toward your recovery.
All of Mary Free Bed’s amputee mentors participate in a one time training session and complete the hospital’s volunteer orientation.
Mary Free Bed’s rehab specialists also recommend The American Coalition of Amputees (ACA) Mentor Program. The ACA’s Mentor Program can arrange a visit or a phone call by an amputee of the same gender and age and who has a similar limb loss. Contact the coalition toll free at 800.528.8989.
