Assistive Technology Services
Your assistive technology evaluation focuses on you, your family, and your caregivers. Specially trained rehabilitation therapists and technicians consider all your medical and functional needs. Our rehab experts use trial situations, at Mary Free Bed or in your home, along with demonstration equipment to ensure that recommendations meet your unique needs.
In addition to your evaluation, the Rehab Technology staff will provide:

Augmentative Communication
If your stroke left you with a limited ability to communicate, an augmentative communication evaluation can help.
Augmentative communication is a system, other than writing, that allows you to make thoughts and needs known. Systems range from low technology, such as custom-made picture boards, to high technology computer-based systems.
Speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists help you and your family, school staff, and others determine how to best meet your communication needs.
Computer Access
After a stroke, specific technology solutions or modifications can enhance lost or limited physical, cognitive, or visual skills. A computer or computer-related device (palm devices, digital recorders, screen readers, among others) offer significant functional gains. Computer access helps with:

Completing personal, educational, and job-related tasks

Work station access
Electronic Aids to Daily Living (EADL)
EADLs are devices that increase independence at home, school, or work. If you have limited hand or fine motor skills after a stroke or if there's concern for your safety while alone, one or more EADLs can help.
