Jason Ratliff – A Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Story

Editor’s note: As part of our holiday campaign, Mary Free Bed is asking former patients to tell us about their rehabilitation experience. What follows is one of those stories

My husband, Jason, was a patient at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital this past summer. Jason experienced a traumatic brain injury as a result of a serious car accident in July.

Jason spent three weeks in a Lansing hospital before he was transferred to MFB in August. When he arrived, he could not walk at all and was not talking very much. In fact, his first memories after the accident were of MFB.

The therapy team he had was amazing! They not only provided support for him, but for me as well. They had him walking in just one week. He was even running, leaping and bounding before he was discharged only four weeks later!

In our first few days at MFB, someone told me that they work at MFB because they believe in miracles. Jason is a miracle!

We will be forever grateful for the amazing staff at Mary Free Bed. From the nurses and doctors to the techs who sat by his bed when I was not able to be there, the amazing therapy team that worked with him went above and beyond many times.

Our son turned 1 year old while Jason was at MFB and the staff made that day special for us all. We are so thankful this holiday season for Mary Free Bed. Mary Free Bed will forever hold a special place in our hearts. God bless.
