Grand Rapids, Mich. — Pediatric and adult patients and staff at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital surprised representatives from the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan (RMHWM) on Friday, Nov. 13, by wearing red-and-white-striped socks during a planned visit by Ronald McDonald.
The surprise was a “thank you” for years of partnership between the two organizations. Last year, RMHWM provided a home-away-from-home 466 times for families of pediatric patients seeking treatment at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
The red and white socks are part of #GetYourSocksOn, a statewide campaign to support the Ronald McDonald Houses in Grand Rapids and Lansing. Now through Nov. 22, cloth socks are available for $5 or a paper sock cutout for $1 at nearly 300 McDonald’s restaurants across Michigan.
The socks are also available for purchase online at www.rmhwesternmichigan.org. All sales directly benefit the Houses, which offer free extended-stay lodging for families with ill children receiving medical and/or mental health treatment. In 2014, the Houses assisted more than 600 families.
