Your Mary Free Bed treatment team works closely with you and your family before your “graduation” (our term for discharge).

Depending on your specific needs, this may include acquiring equipment, ongoing treatment instructions and medications. Please ask your treatment team questions about your care as you prepare to leave Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.

We typically plan for discharge to be completed by 11 am. This allows us to welcome new inpatients. Your treatment team may help you to make other arrangements when necessary. After discharge, you’ll receive a patient satisfaction questionnaire about your Mary Free Bed stay. We value your input on the survey so we can continue to improve our service for future patients.

Here are some of the services your rehab team may recommend before you return home:

Home Assessment

Before you leave, we may conduct a home assessment to determine if any modifications should be made to your home.

Therapeutic Overnight Pass

Near the end of your stay at Mary Free Bed, a therapeutic overnight pass (one or two nights) may be prescribed to let you practice newly acquired skills and spend time with family and friends. Your social worker will coordinate the overnight pass and contact your insurance company for the required approval.

Outpatient Therapy

You may be referred to in-home therapy or to Mary Free Bed’s Outpatient Therapy Center. We offer comprehensive pediatric and adult outpatient therapy, with direct physiatry involvement, right here on the Mary Free Bed campus.

Our multidisciplinary teams work with you to tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs. We see more than 40,000 patients a year in our outpatient center and are proud of our excellent outcomes and high patient satisfaction scores. If you have questions about Mary Free Bed’s outpatient care, feel free to ask your nurse, therapist or physician.

Mary Free Bed Clinics

After you’ve completed your inpatient stay at Mary Free Bed, your physician may want to follow up with you in the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Clinic. We have pediatric and adult outpatient clinics available.

The clinic is multidisciplinary and comprehensive, so in addition to the physicians and nursing staff, other specialty services are available if you need them: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, orthotics, prosthetics, nutritional services, social work, OrthoSEAT (custom wheelchair seating), vocational rehabilitation, radiology and laboratory services.

Driver Rehabilitation Program

Mary Free Bed’s Driver Rehabilitation Program designs individualized services for teens, seniors, people with traumatic injuries, and those with life-long disabilities. If it’s possible, one of the Driver Rehabilitation therapists will work with you to get you back on the road.
