Teenager Documents Journey with Cerebral Palsy Part 4

We are excited to welcome Katharine as our first Mary Free Bed Guest Blogger. She came to Mary Free Bed for rehabilitation following a complicated surgery to correct her gait. Kat is blogging about this experience, and she is allowing us to share her thoughts with you.

Keep on keepin’ on

Well hey!

So far I’ve made great progress. I might be able to come home earlier than expected!

I’m walking with arm crutches now, and using my leopard-printed leg brace more often. I was even able to make a meal for my mom and me! I’m able to do more activities that I enjoy, like cooking. I’m also able to do some things I didn’t think I would ever be able to do, like riding a (three-wheeled) bike, and that sort of thing encourages me every day.

They definitely work me hard here; I know it’s for my benefit. But I’m not going to lie, it can really hurt! Plus, walking for too long tires me.

I’m really proud of what I’ve been able to do, and I didn’t think I would come so far in such a short period of time. If it hadn’t been for their persistence, I don’t know if I would have this much good news to report. I’ll keep you posted!

XO,

Kat

Still going strong.

Well hey there!

So far, I believe that I have made great progress! I’m still walking with arm crutches, but that’s alright. I’m really happy with how far I’ve come in two weeks. The therapists really try to make it fun for me, and so far they’ve succeeded. I really enjoy riding the three-wheeled bike (no, not a tricycle) and yoga.

I’ve gotten to get out of here a couple of times. I got to spend time with my family, and go to the mall (for a therapeutic outing! ) I really liked that.

I feel like I am getting stronger. They certainly are working me hard! I’m really pushing myself, and giving ten percent more effort than expected, just as my dad told me to.

I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

XO,

Kat
