We offer several scholarship programs at Mary Free Bed. Below is information on our Disability Scholarship Program and Minority Scholarship Program.

Disability Scholarship Program

History
The Mary Free Bed Guild, established in 1891, is a nonprofit organization that owns Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2013, the Guild created the Disability Scholarship Program intended for individuals who would meet similar challenges as the patients Mary Free Bed treats on a daily basis.

Award
An individual is eligible to apply for a one-year scholarship for education-related expenses if he or she meets the established criteria. The scholarship amounts may vary depending on individual needs.

Recipient Selection
The scholarship selection committee includes the Mary Free Bed Guild and hospital leaders who select scholarship recipients based on the established criteria.

Eligibility Criteria
• Must possess a diagnosed physical disability related to a brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, limb difference, or overcoming any other serious acquired or congenital neurological condition treatable through rehabilitation
• Cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale (overall and in the chosen area of study)
• Must be able to competitively apply oneself in the desired
field of study, potentially with reasonable accommodations
• Student currently enrolled in, or accepted into an accredited college or university as at least a half-time status (Half time as determined by the school)
• Demonstrates leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other volunteer activities
• Citizen of the United States
• Demonstrates a commitment to serving diverse populations
• Must be a permanent resident in one of the following counties: Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Eaton, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Ottawa or Van Buren

Revision Policy
The Mary Free Bed Guild reserves the right to revise the conditions and procedures for the Disability Scholarship Program, including termination of the program.

Minority Scholarship Program

History
The Mary Free Bed Guild, established in 1891, is a non-profit organization that owns Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2002, the Guild created the Minority Scholarship Program to promote diverse staffing to better meet the rehabilitation needs of our patients.

Award
An individual is eligible to apply for a one-year scholarship for education-related expenses if he or she meets the established criteria. The scholarship amounts may vary depending on individual needs.

The scholarship selection committee includes the Mary Free Bed Guild and hospital leaders who select scholarship recipients based on the established criteria.

Eligibility Criteria
• Currently enrolled in, or accepted in, an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student in a nursing program, or graduate-level physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, therapeutic recreation, orthotics or prosthetics, or neuropsychology program
• Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
(overall and in the chosen area of study)
• Demonstrated leadership ability through participation in community service, extracurricular or other volunteer activities
• Black or African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino,
Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, American Indian or Alaskan Native
• Citizen of the United States
• Demonstrates a commitment to serving diverse populations
• Applicant must be a permanent resident of one of the following Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Eaton, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Ottawa or Van Buren
