GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Applications are being accepted for the 2020 Mary Free Bed college scholarship programs.
The Disability Scholarship Program and the Minority Scholarship Program are offered by the Mary Free Bed Guild, the nonprofit organization that owns the rehabilitation hospital. Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, and students are eligible to receive an award up to three times.
The Disability Scholarship was created in 2013 for students who face challenges similar to those met by Mary Free Bed patients. To be eligible, a student must have a diagnosed physical disability related to a brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, limb difference or another serious acquired or congenital neurological condition that’s treatable with rehabilitation. The scholarship is for students who are currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university at least half time, as determined by the school. The Minority Scholarship was created in 2002 to promote diverse staffing to meet the needs of Mary Free Bed patients. To be eligible, a student must be currently enrolled or accepted at an accredited college or university nursing program, or graduate-level physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, therapeutic recreation, orthotics, prosthetics or neuropsychology programs.
