Grand Rapids, Mich. – A highly acclaimed ski movie will be featured at Wealthy Theatre as part of a fundraiser that also will include a silent auction, raffle, discounted lift tickets and a give-away of winter sports helmets.

Sherpa Cinema’s feature film “Into the Mind” will premiere locally at 8 p.m. January 11. The movie blurs the lines between dream state and reality, immersing the viewer into the mind of a skier as he climbs and skis the ultimate mountain.

Before the movie, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital will promote the use of winter sports helmets by fitting and distributing helmets to a limited number of young people attending the event. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 ($10 for Grand Rapids Community Media Center members) and are available here.

Two winter sports enthusiasts who have suffered concussions will emcee the event. They will speak about their experiences and conduct the raffle and silent auction of ski gear.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Summer Journeys Scholarship Fund. Summer Journeys is a nonprofit that provides mountain adventure learning in the Tetons for Grand Rapids youths.

“We can’t eliminate completely the risk from the sports we love, but we absolutely can make sure our heads are protected,” says event co-organizer Lisa Rose Starner, whose helmet campaign springs from the fact that her father suffered a traumatic brain injury last summer as the result of a motorcycle accident. “His helmet saved his life,” she says.
