The Mary Free Bed Orthotics and Prosthetics Residency Program is designed to develop recent graduates into exemplary clinicians by providing patient care exposure, opportunities for research, fabrication and collaboration with other clinical team members. The objective of the residency program is not only to prepare you for your boards, but also give in-the-field experience to further your career.
Why Mary Free Bed?
At Mary Free Bed, we push the boundaries to find new ways to help our patients be successful and independent. We will ensure you have the opportunity to explore and pursue creative solutions to our patients’ challenges.
You’ll be encouraged – and expected – to think outside the box. Our unique ideas and insights drive our role as an industry leader. And you’ll have the opportunity to learn from top clinicians with diverse clinical expertise.
We care for patients with extraordinarily complex medical needs. As a resident, you will play a crucial role in helping to restore mobility and freedom after a serious injury or illness. You’ll be part of a team committed to our hospital’s mission.
Each resident will rotate through various mentors during his or her residency. All aspects of patient care will be covered from evaluation and consultation, to diagnostic fittings, to delivery and follow-up. Residents also will have the opportunity to shadow other disciplines (PT, OT, etc.) to provide experience in team-oriented patient care. In addition, the hospital provides exposure to small facility, rehabilitation, clinics, acute, inpatient and outpatient working environments.
An interview with the Residency Selection Committee is required for all candidates. Each candidate will be selected on the basis of his or her clinical experience and education.
Residency positions are available in orthotics or prosthetics to allow focus on each discipline individually. Each residency will be 12 months, in accordance with National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education standards.
Residents receive full-time employee status at Mary Free Bed, which includes full-time benefits.
