Physical Therapy Specialists, PC, was founded in December 1977 in a small office in Clawson, Michigan. In 1986, Dr. Paul Roubal moved the growing practice to Troy and in 1992, expanded in its current 10,000 square foot office to include a fitness center. Today, PT Specialists is part of the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network, expanding rehabilitation services to patients in southeast Michigan and around the state.

We are located at 1845 Livernois Road in Troy, just minutes from Birmingham, Clawson and Bloomfield Hills. We’d love to help you get back to doing the things you love. Give us a call at 248.362.2150.

Chronic Pain
If you suffer from chronic pain, we can help you regain control of your life.

The pain rehabilitation experts at Mary Free Bed understand the complexities of persistent pain. Unlike acute pain, which occurs with an injury, illness or medical procedure, the cause of chronic pain isn’t always clear. Research suggests chronic pain relates to how our brain processes pain messages.

At Mary Free Bed, we treat the whole person by utilizing a mind-and-body rehabilitation approach to complement or replace conventional medicine. This includes:

  • Physical conditioning
  • Body mechanics training
  • Pain management skills.

Our multidisciplinary team of clinicians has specialized training and extensive experience to put you on the path to a full and productive life. We can help safely reduce or eliminate your reliance on opioids and other medications, and find ways to re-engage in the things that are meaningful to you.

Hand Therapy
We pursue a positive outcome for our patients, whether they suffer from common hand issues or have experienced a traumatic injury. Patients may benefit from rehabilitation offered through the Hand Therapy program with diagnoses including:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Cubital tunnel
  • De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
  • Trigger finger/thumb
  • Lateral and medial epicondylitis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Mallet finger
  • Fractures

Our treatment plans include patient education, exercises, modalities and, if indicated, custom orthosis fabrication.

An individualized, goal-oriented treatment plan is developed to restore function and independence for each patient. This plan incorporates a variety of treatment methods to address various concerns, including pain, impaired function, decreased range of motion, weakness, scarring, edema, wounds, hypersensitivity, decreased sensation/neuropathy and muscle spasms.

Custom Foot Orthotics
There’s a big difference between a shoe insert and a custom orthotic device. Your body is a sensitive and dynamic system requiring something other than an “off the shelf” configuration. Properly fitted orthotics makes movement easier and/or may reduce pain of foot, ankle, or lower extremities.

Professional Fitness Services
We established our own workout facility when former patients were looking for a safe, non-threatening, supervised environment to continue their exercise programs. Our members all have one thing in common — they are all proactive about their health.

Our fitness center features the most up-to-date exercise equipment available. This includes Nu-Step stair climbers, elliptical trainers, stationary bicycles, plyometrics, treadmills and a Versa-Climber. We also offer a full line of Cybex Strength Systems progressive resistance weight training equipment. Special exercises with high-speed pulley systems are also available.
