Damage to your central nervous system can mean neuromuscular impairments that make it difficult for you to move or function. The focus of Mary Free Bed’s Biofeedback Laboratory for Neuromuscular Re-education is to restore and enhance your abilities.

We provide biofeedback services for patients of all ages. Our special pediatric program can address your child’s or teen’s unique needs.

Neuromuscular biofeedback is a treatment option for inpatients and outpatients alike. We serve patients who’ve experienced limitations because of neurological disabilities including:

• Spinal cord injury
• Brain injury
• Stroke
• Cerebral palsy
• Spina bifida
• Guillain-Barré syndrome
• Encephalitis
• Polio/post-polio
• Myelitis
• Bell’s palsy

A trained biofeedback therapist will lead a comprehensive evaluation to develop your plan of care. Your specialists use state-of-the-art technology to teach you to more efficiently use motor cells in your brain, brain stem and spinal cord. As you make strides with voluntary motor muscle control, your training sessions may focus on gait and functionality. Feedback, combined with behavioral conditioning techniques, help you to re-educate your muscles and find greater success in your therapies.

You’ll need a prescription from your physician to receive biofeedback services. Your biofeedback team includes therapists with extensive training in neuromuscular feedback. They work with patients who have neurological impairments similar to your own. The Program Medical Advisor is a physician specializing in physical and rehabilitation medicine.

More than 90% of our biofeedback program patients experience gains in motor recruitment and more than 92% have gains in muscle strength. On average, our patients meet 80% of their established long-term goals. Patient satisfaction scores consistently exceed 98%.
