Your Assistive Technology Journey at Mary Free Bed
When speaking is a challenge, we have innovative solutions to help you express yourself.
An occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist (SLP) will work with you and your loved one to determine an alternative or supplement to verbal communication. We’ll discuss and explore your hopes and goals, and then you’ll work with therapists to create an individualized communication plan.
We’re here to help you explore a range of options from low-tech to high-tech solutions. Your SLP will work closely with well-established vendors to maintain the most up to date speech-generating devices with the latest accessing features. These are available for practice during augmentative communication sessions.
Control these devices with a variety of methods, including touchscreen, eye gaze, head mouse, and switch-scanning technology, which allows communication with even a single movement.
Software modifications and hardware additions to your computer can help eliminate challenges you might experience with typing, spelling, reading, moving a mouse or viewing what’s on the screen.
