“Mentors help shape the physiatrists that we will become, and the importance of strong mentorship is well recognized in our program.” – Adam Lamm, M.D., Associate Program Director, PM&R Residency Program
Mentorship Program
At Mary Free Bed, mentorship is a cornerstone of our residency program, fostering personal and professional growth.
Mentorship Pairings
PGY-2 residents are matched with volunteer faculty mentors known for their expertise in teaching, relationship building, and vision.
Pairings are based on residents’ career interests. For those undecided, mentors are chosen based on shared interests outside of medicine to encourage meaningful connections.
What to Expect
Residents meet with their mentors at least quarterly, discussing topics such as:
Goal setting and vision
Career aspirations
Wellness
Mentors guide residents through next steps, including fellowship applications and job searches.
Portfolio Development
Mentors assist residents in developing a portfolio that highlights:
Talents and abilities
Academic achievements
Progress in scholarly work and quality improvement
Areas for further growth
Inspired by academic faculty promotion frameworks, this portfolio equips residents with the skills and habits for success in academic practice and beyond.
This personalized mentorship program ensures residents are well-prepared to thrive in their careers.
