Mary Free Bed graduates first class of PM&R residents
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Four physicians who came to Mary Free Bed from across the country will graduate Saturday in the inaugural class of the hospital’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency. The rigorous post-graduate program provides clinical, educational and research opportunities in all areas of PM&R, including amputation, brain injury, cancer, pediatrics, stroke and spinal cord injury.
Mary Free Bed is an independent teaching hospital focused exclusively on medical rehabilitation. The residency, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, consists of four years of study: a transitional year of general medicine followed by three specialty years at Mary Free Bed. Based at its 167-bed free-standing hospital in Grand Rapids, rotations include inpatient and outpatient services as well as access to leading-edge rehabilitation technology.
The Class of 2020 will take what they’ve learned to serve patients in various locations:
- Jason Coombs, D.O., heads to Trinity Health in Minot, North Dakota.
- Thomas Hordt, M.D., stays with the Mary Free Bed family in Grand Rapids.
- Christopher Meadows, M.D., joins St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute in Spokane, Washington.
- Anthony Truong, M.D., begins a fellowship in interventional spine and pain management at Michigan State University/Comprehensive Pain Specialists in Flint, Michigan.
