Mary Free Bed limiting visitors to protect patients, staff and community

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mary Free Bed is addressing the surge in COVID-19 cases and working to reduce the spread by limiting the number of people coming into our buildings.

As always, everyone visiting our main campus in Grand Rapids or any of our outpatient locations will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms or risk factors upon arrival. All visitors must wear a surgical or homemade mask (or a face shield if you’re medically unable to wear a mask). No one younger than 18 can visit. We’re helping patients stay connected with loved ones through virtual visits and by phone.

Here’s our visitor policy:

  • Adult inpatients: One visitor – When you’re admitted, you’ll choose one designated adult visitor for the duration of your stay. If you require mechanical ventilation, you may have two designated caregivers, but only one is allowed onsite at a time.
  • Mary Free Bed Kids: Two visitors – A maximum of two designated parents/caregivers will be determined at the time of admission for the duration of the patient’s stay, but only one may come at a time.
  • ReCOVery℠ Unit: No visitors – This area is for patients recovering from COVID-19.
  • Sub-Acute Rehabilitation: No visitors – Sub-acute rehabilitation falls under the rules of nursing homes, and CDC mandates don’t allow visitors.
  • Outpatients
    • Outpatient therapy— One adult family member/caregiver at Mary Free Bed locations. (At Network hospitals, follow visitor policies.)=
    • Orthotics & Prosthetics + Bionics – One adult family member/caregiver.

Visiting hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily at our hospital on the main campus in Grand Rapids. Visitors may take patients outside on the third-floor terrace, weather-permitting.

Mary Free Bed staff knows that restricted visitor policies can have an impact on the emotional well-being of patients. That’s way we continue to help patients stay connected with loved ones through virtual visits and by phone.
