Mary Free Bed once again named a top rehabilitation center by Newsweek

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  For the second straight year, Mary Free Bed has been recognized as one of America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers by Newsweek health care analysts. The ratings are based on scores for quality of care, service, follow-up treatment and accommodations/amenities. Clinician recommendations also are included in the calculations.

Newsweek looked at 25 states – five more than last year — with the largest number of inpatient rehabilitation facilities and spotlighted 230 organizations.

Here’s a comparison of Mary Free Bed’s national standing this year compared to last:

Score Standing Top Percent
2021 86.5% #12 5%
2020 84.16% #11 8%

Newsweek partnered with global market research firm Statista Inc. to calculate the ratings. Centers were chosen based on methodology that includes data from a survey of thousands of medical experts as well as outcome information from the U.S. Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services. Newsweek also expanded its methodology this year to include accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International (CARF). In addition to a general CARF accreditation, Mary Free Bed holds 10 special CARF accreditations.

Mary Free Bed recently celebrated another national ranking. U.S. News & World Report rated Mary Free Bed 17th in the country. Its analysis covered all states and reviewed 1,083 organizations.

“I’m so proud of the Mary Free Bed staff members,” said Mary Free Bed CEO Kent Riddle. “As always, I’m in awe of their dedication and success serving patients. These accolades belong to them.”
