Three Mary Free Bed team members honored as ‘40 under 40’ West Michigan business leaders

The Grand Rapids Business Journal has announced its “40 under 40” list, and three members of the Mary Free Bed family are included: Emily Babson, Terry Rostic and Cameron Young. The annual awards celebrate 40 people making a difference in the West Michigan community from hundreds nominated.

As director of Organizational Development and Leadership Training at Mary Free Bed, Babson developed curriculum and programming to help staff progress in their roles. She has a passion for diversity, equity and inclusion work, and is involved with West MI Works and Talent2025. She’s also a member of Leadership Grand Rapids 2021.

Babson’s leadership efforts have shined during the COVID-19 pandemic. Early on, she was called to serve on the hospital’s incident command team, leading projects and processes such as staff screening, mask cleaning, COVID-19 unit operations, and helping to develop the hospital’s response plan. She also served as project manager for Mary Free Bed’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic, which distributed nearly 4,000 vaccines.

Rostic leads Community Relations for Mary Free Bed’s Human Resources department. He was nominated for the “40 under 40” award for his work in the beverage industry as a co-owner of Michigan’s first Black-owned brewery, Black Calder Brewing Co.

Young is a member of the Mary Free Bed Board of Trustees and works as a digital marketing specialist at Behler-Young. He sustained a spinal cord injury in college and serves in multiple areas of the community, creating opportunities for people with disabilities.

Babson, Rostic and Young will be recognized at the GRBJ’s Oct. 26 awards celebration at GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids.
