Lylah Gritter battles Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) & defies the odds with help from Mary Free Bed

Screen Shot 2015-10-01 at 12.51.48 PMMy daughter Lylah was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) at 6 months old. SMA is the No. 1 genetic killer in children two years and younger. Much like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, SMA is an atrophy that will slowly take away Lylah’s ability to talk, smile, swallow, move and eventually breathe on her own.

Our experience with Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital has truly been a gift to Lylah’s life. Between hard work in the pool with Sarah and Jen, to occupational therapy with Lauren, it’s allowed Lylah to keep what little strength she has. Not to mention Amy at OrthoSEAT has given Lylah the ability to move on her own …. in her very own wheelchair.
